Tracking microbial growth by turbidity is faster when readings can be taken without opening the flask or transferring samples. These nephelo flasks have a sidearm tube that fits a turbidity meter or nephelometer, so growth can be monitored directly from the culture.

The flasks are borosilicate glass 3.3 with a scratch- and striation-free side tube, offered with or without a cleanout port. On a platform shaker the flask holds about 350 mL to the base of the sidearm, keeping culture out of the tube while shaking.
