Unlike conventional solid sealing films that block gas exchange entirely, the AeraSeal™ is constructed from 114 µm (4.5 mil) hydrophobic porous rayon — a highly gas-permeable material that allows uniform air and CO₂ exchange across all wells simultaneously while minimizing cross-contamination, spillage, and evaporation between wells.
A critical advantage of AeraSeal™ over standard plate lids for gas-permeable cell culture applications is its uniformity of gas exchange. Conventional plate lids favor gas exchange for wells positioned near the plate edges — where the lid-to-plate gap is larger — while wells at the center of the plate receive less gas exchange. This creates non-uniform culture conditions across the plate that can introduce significant well-to-well variability in cell growth and metabolic assays. The AeraSeal™ eliminates this non-uniformity entirely by creating direct contact between the breathable membrane and every well's sealing surface, ensuring identical gas exchange conditions for all 96 wells simultaneously.
The medical-grade adhesive bonds directly to the sealing surface of each well for a secure, uniform seal that prevents cross-contamination between wells and spillage during plate handling — while the hydrophobic rayon membrane allows gas permeation. Non-perforated end tabs are easily removable and provide a convenient grip during application. The AeraSeal™ is also easily pierceable with standard pipet tips or pipets for direct sample recovery without removing the seal. Certified non-cytotoxic, non-pyrogenic, and RNase-/DNase-free. APPLICATION TIPS
- Press firmly around each well rim after application — use of the accessory plate roller is recommended to ensure a secure, uniform seal around all wells
- Non-perforated end tabs serve as a convenient handling grip during application and can be removed after sealing
- For optimal gas exchange uniformity, ensure the film is sealed completely and uniformly to all well rims before incubation
- Pierce directly with pipet tips for sample recovery without removing the seal
