The critical distinction between the BT4500 and the flask-based CO2 orbital shakers is the orbit size and speed range. The BT4001 and BT4011 use a 19mm orbit at 30–300 RPM — ideal for mixing large volumes in Erlenmeyer flasks where the large orbital motion drives complete culture circulation. The BT4500 uses a compact 2–3mm orbit at 200–1200 RPM — the completely different motion geometry required for thorough mixing of small-volume microplate wells, where a large orbit would cause excessive spillage and a large orbit at low speed would not create sufficient mixing turbulence in the small well volume. The high-speed, small-orbit motion of the BT4500 creates the vigorous circular motion needed to completely mix the contents of each well from center to edge, preventing cell settling and concentration gradients that compromise plate-based cell culture and assay results.
The included 6-position microplate platform secures both standard and deep well plates without additional clamps or hardware — up to 6 microplates simultaneously inside the CO2 incubator. The remote controller can magnetically mount to the outer wall of the CO2 incubator, allowing complete speed and timer adjustment from outside the chamber without opening the door — maintaining CO2 atmosphere, temperature, and sterile conditions.
