Introducing AdvanceSeal™ 3000 — Excel Scientific's New Peelable Foil Heat Seal Now Available at LIGHT LABS

Posted by Cary Gummelt on Apr 17th 2026

LIGHT LABS is pleased to announce that we now carry the new Excel Scientific AdvanceSeal™ 3000 — a peelable aluminum foil heat seal designed for PCR, long-term compound storage, light-sensitive assays, and robotic plate sealing workflows where clean, reliable, tear-free peel performance is a requirement.

Available now in two roll formats — AS-3000P (77.5mm × 610m) and AS-3000L (115mm × 500m) — the AdvanceSeal™ 3000 is compatible with Kbiosystems, Azenta, and Agilent PlateLoc heat sealers, and is PCR certified free of detectable DNase, RNase, and Human DNA contamination.

What Makes a Peelable Foil Seal Different — and Why It Matters

Not all microplate heat seals are created equal. The two most common foil heat seal types in the lab are pierceable foils and peelable foils — and the difference matters significantly depending on your workflow.

A pierceable foil is designed to be punctured by a needle or pipette tip for sample access. It provides an excellent hermetic seal and is well suited for automated liquid handling where needles access each well directly. However, once punctured, the seal is compromised — making it unsuitable for workflows that require full plate access after sealing or clean plate removal for downstream processing.

A peelable foil, by contrast, is designed to be pulled cleanly away from the plate surface in a single motion — removing the entire seal without tearing, fragmenting, or leaving adhesive residue in the wells. This is the critical performance characteristic of the AdvanceSeal™ 3000. For workflows that involve sealing plates for storage or incubation and then opening them for downstream processing, a peelable foil that removes cleanly without contaminating the wells is not optional — it is essential.

Introducing the AdvanceSeal™ 3000 — Key Features

Peelable Foil — No Tearing, No Fragments, No Contamination The AdvanceSeal™ 3000 peels cleanly from the plate without tearing — preventing foil fragments from falling into wells during removal and eliminating the risk of cross-well contamination from a damaged seal. Consistent, reliable peel performance across polypropylene, dual component (polycarbonate/polypropylene), and polystyrene plate formats.

-80°C to +105°C — One Seal for Every Temperature in Your Workflow The AdvanceSeal™ 3000 maintains a secure, reliable seal across an exceptional temperature range of -80°C to +105°C — covering the full spectrum from ultra-low temperature compound library storage all the way through PCR and qPCR thermal cycling. This wide range eliminates the need to maintain separate seal inventories for cold storage vs. thermal cycling applications. Seal your plates once, move them through every stage of the workflow with confidence.

PCR Certified — DNase-Free, RNase-Free, Human DNA-Free The AdvanceSeal™ 3000 is PCR certified and tested to be free of detectable levels of DNase, RNase, and Human DNA contamination — meeting the stringent quality standards required for nucleic acid amplification workflows. For clinical, diagnostic, and forensic PCR applications where human DNA contamination from a seal film is unacceptable, this certification is non-negotiable.

Excellent Chemical Resistance — Including DMSO The foil construction provides excellent resistance to organic solvents, DMSO-based compound libraries, detergent-containing buffers, and other chemically aggressive matrices encountered in drug discovery and compound storage. Suitable for sealing plates containing virtually any compound or reagent type in common laboratory use.

Complete Light Exclusion — For Photosensitive Applications The opaque aluminum foil construction provides complete light exclusion — protecting fluorescent dyes, luminescent reagents, photosensitive compounds, and light-sensitive biological samples from photodegradation during storage and incubation. The AdvanceSeal™ 3000 is the appropriate choice over transparent film seals for any workflow involving photosensitive materials.

Robotics and Automation Compatible The roll format and consistent peel performance of the AdvanceSeal™ 3000 make it well suited for automated heat sealing platforms in robotic liquid handling and high-throughput screening environments. Compatible with Kbiosystems, Azenta, and Agilent PlateLoc heat sealers.

Recommended Sealing Parameters

Plate Type Time Temperature
Polypropylene 3 seconds 155°C–165°C
Dual Component (Polycarbonate/Polypropylene) 3 seconds 155°C–165°C
Polystyrene 2 seconds 140°C

Sealing parameters should be optimized based on plate type to obtain a secure seal.

Two Roll Formats — Choose the Right Width for Your Sealer

The AdvanceSeal™ 3000 is available in two roll formats to accommodate different sealer platforms and plate requirements:

AdvanceSeal™ 3000 AS-3000P — 77.5mm × 610m Roll The standard width format — 77.5mm wide, 610 meters per roll. The longer roll length provides maximum run time between roll changes, making it ideal for high-throughput environments where minimizing downtime is a priority. Compatible with Kbiosystems, Azenta, and Agilent PlateLoc heat sealers that accept this roll width.

AdvanceSeal™ 3000 AS-3000L — 115mm × 500m Roll The wide format — 115mm wide, 500 meters per roll. Designed for sealing platforms and plate formats that require a wider roll than the standard 77.5mm. If your heat sealer or plate format specifies 115mm seal width, the AS-3000L is the correct format to order.

Not sure which width your sealer requires? Check your sealer's specifications or contact our team at sales@lightlabsusa.com or 1-800-286-3103 — we are happy to help you identify the right format.

Who Should Be Using the AdvanceSeal™ 3000?

If your lab is running any of the following workflows, the AdvanceSeal™ 3000 belongs in your consumables inventory:

PCR and qPCR plate sealing requiring PCR-certified foil, long-term compound library storage at -80°C, high-throughput screening with automated plate handling, DMSO compound library plate sealing, light-sensitive assay plates (fluorescence, luminescence, photosensitive compound storage), robotic liquid handling with automated heat sealing, and any microplate workflow requiring a peelable foil heat seal with broad temperature range performance and clean, reliable peel removal.
