Unlike polypropylene and polyester sealing films that must be removed from the plate before pipette access, the AlumaSeal II™ is specifically engineered to be easily pierced in place by single or multichannel pipettors and robotic probes — enabling direct sample recovery from sealed plates without unsealing. This makes the AFS-25 indispensable in automated high-throughput screening workflows where plates must remain sealed between robotic processing steps.
The AlumaSeal II™ is constructed from a 36 µm soft, non-permeable, conformable aluminum foil with a 28 µm layer of strong medical-grade acrylic adhesive. The 1.4 mil conformable foil allows visual verification of the seal's security around each well — the foil clearly conforms to the raised rim of each well so incomplete seals are immediately visible before processing. A key differentiator vs. competing aluminum foil seals: AlumaSeal II™ has significantly less tendency to roll back on itself when removing the backing paper — allowing the film to lay flat on the plate during application for a more consistent, complete seal. The wide temperature range of -80°C to +120°C makes the AFS-25 suitable for PCR thermocycling, -80°C long-term frozen storage, and all intermediate temperature workflows. Excellent chemical resistance (including DMSO) makes it compatible with compound library storage and chemical screening applications. APPLICATION TIPS
- Remove end tabs before thermal cycling to prevent interference with thermal cycler lid
- Remove the film diagonally from a corner to prevent tearing
- Hold end tab and strip backing from the film body as it lays on the plate to avoid curling
- Press firmly around each well rim after application and visually verify seal conformity before thermal cycling or storage
