The Excel Scientific AlumaSeal® 96™ F-96-100 is a 38µm soft non-permeable aluminum foil sealing film with a 38µm medical-grade acrylic adhesive — specifically dimensioned to fit inside the rim of raised-rim and non-skirted 96-well PCR plates. AlumaSeal® 96 films are heat and cold resistant, recommended for temperatures from -80°C to +120°C, and are certified DNase, RNase, and nucleic-acid-free. Compared to other aluminum foils, AlumaSeal® 96 has less tendency to roll back or itself when removing the backing paper and conforms well to the plate during application. AlumaSeal 96™ films have one partial-width end tab with no perforations and fit inside the rim of raised-rim plates. Suitable for both PCR thermal cycling and cold storage at -80°C. Fits Inside the Rim of Raised-Rim Plates — The Critical Differentiator The F-96-100 is the raised-rim format of the AlumaSeal® line — dimensioned at 77.8 × 127.0 mm to fit precisely within the raised rim of 96-well PCR plates rather than overlapping it. This fit-inside-rim design is essential for raised-rim and non-skirted PCR plates where a full-size aluminum foil seal (such as the AlumaSeal® II AF-100 at 82.6 × 146.1 mm) would overlap the rim — causing the foil to lift at the edges during thermal cycling, compromising the seal and increasing evaporation. The F-96-100 eliminates this problem entirely by staying within the plate rim.
PCR and Cold Storage — Both Supported Unlike the AlumaSeal® CS™ (FC-100), which is formulated for cold storage only, the F-96-100 supports both PCR thermal cycling (-80°C to +120°C) and cold storage. This dual-use capability makes the AlumaSeal® 96™ the ideal single foil seal for labs that seal plates for PCR runs and also need to store sealed plates at -80°C — without maintaining separate seal inventories for each application.
38µm Soft Non-Permeable Aluminum Foil — Conforms Well, Less Roll-Back The 38µm aluminum foil of the F-96-100 is thinner and softer than the 50µm foil used in the AlumaSeal® II and AlumaSeal® CS™ lines — making it more conformable to the well geometry of raised-rim plates and significantly less prone to rolling back during application. The soft foil conforms readily to the plate surface with hand pressure or a sealing paddle, producing a consistent, uniform seal across all 96 wells without requiring a heat sealing instrument.
No Heat Sealer Required — Hand Pressure or Sealing Paddle Application Completing application of AlumaSeal 96 sealing films by pressing with an accessory film-sealing paddle assures a secure uniform seal around all wells. The paddle fits within the rim of a raised-well plate. The sealing paddle is specifically recommended over a standard plate sealing roller for raised-rim plates — the paddle dimensions are designed to fit within the rim and apply even pressure across all wells without contacting the rim itself. Hand pressure is sufficient for application, but the paddle ensures the most uniform seal across every well.
Pierceable — Robotic Probe and Pipette Tip Compatible The F-96-100 is pierceable with standard pipette tips and robotic liquid handling probes — allowing direct well access for sample retrieval without removing the seal. This is critical for automated compound management, HTS workflows, and any application where robotic probes must access individual wells while the plate remains sealed.
One Partial-Width End Tab — Simplified Application The single partial-width end tab with no perforations simplifies film handling and positioning over the plate — providing grip during application without a full-width tab that would need to be removed separately. The partial-width design keeps application fast and straightforward in high-throughput environments.
