Product Description
The Falcon® 354118 is an 8-well CultureSlide™ — a uniquely designed cell culture vessel that combines a polystyrene culture chamber with a standard 25 × 75mm glass microscope slide to allow cells to be cultured, fixed, stained, and examined by microscopy without transfer or disruption of the cell monolayer. Falcon Culture Slides allow you to culture cells and then analyse them on a glass microscope slide. Cells are grown in a plastic chamber affixed to a specially prepared glass microscope slide. Cells can be fixed and stained in place without disruption of the cell monolayer. The chamber is easily and safely removed with an easy-to-use disposable Safety Removal Tool. Safe and easy chamber removal for microscopic analysis. Innovative sealing design. 0.7cm² growth area per well. Glass slide dimensions: 25 × 75mm. Packaged in disposable incubation trays. 12 slides per tray, 24 slides per case. Available with 1, 2, 4, or 8 wells — numbered for easy identification.
The CultureSlide™ Concept — Culture, Fix, Stain, and Image on a Single Substrate The Falcon CultureSlide™ is the only culture vessel format that eliminates all intermediate steps between cell culture and microscopic analysis. The workflow is uniquely streamlined:
- Culture — seed cells into the polystyrene chambers affixed to the glass slide and culture under standard incubation conditions
- Fix — fix cells directly in the chamber with the fixative of your choice without disturbing the cell monolayer
- Remove chamber — detach the polystyrene vessel using the included Safety Removal Tool, leaving the fixed cell monolayer on the glass slide
- Stain — apply immunofluorescence antibodies, DAPI, H&E, or other stains directly to the cells on the glass surface
- Image — mount a coverslip directly over the stained cells and image on any standard upright or inverted fluorescence microscope
This integrated workflow eliminates the cell transfer, scraping, cytospin, or cryosectioning steps required when imaging cells cultured in standard multi-well plates — preserving cell morphology, spatial architecture, and protein localization that are disrupted by transfer procedures.
8 Numbered Wells — Multiple Conditions on a Single Slide The 354118 provides 8 individual culture wells on a single standard 25 × 75mm glass slide — each well numbered for easy identification and correlation between culture conditions and microscopic observations. Available with 1, 2, 4, or 8 wells, numbered for easy identification. The 8-well format allows up to 8 independent culture conditions, treatments, time points, or cell lines to be processed on a single slide — maximizing the information obtained from each staining and imaging session and minimizing the number of slides required for comparative experiments.
TC-Treated Polystyrene Chamber — Consistent Cell Attachment on Glass The polystyrene chamber of the 354118 is tissue culture treated — providing the negatively charged, hydrophilic surface that promotes consistent attachment, spreading, and growth of anchorage-dependent cells within each well. The TC-treated chamber ensures that cells establish a uniform monolayer on the glass substrate surface, producing the consistently flat, adherent cell layer that is essential for high-quality fluorescence microscopy and immunocytochemistry.
Specially Cleaned Glass Slide — Optimized for Microscopy Polystyrene chamber affixed to a specially cleaned and triple-rinsed glass microscope slide (25 × 75mm). The glass slide substrate of the 354118 is not a standard microscope slide — it is specially cleaned and triple-rinsed to remove residues and surface contaminants that would interfere with cell attachment, staining quality, or fluorescence imaging. The glass substrate provides the optical properties required for high-resolution microscopy — including confocal, widefield fluorescence, DIC, and phase contrast imaging — that are not achievable on plastic substrates due to their higher autofluorescence and inferior optical homogeneity.
Safety Removal Tool — Clean Chamber Detachment Without Disrupting Cells Safety Removal Tool separates wells from slide; gasket remains with plastic vessel, prevents cross-contamination and doesn't interfere with further processing. The included disposable Safety Removal Tool is specifically engineered to detach the polystyrene chamber assembly from the glass slide in a single clean motion — without disturbing the fixed cell monolayer, without cross-contaminating adjacent wells, and without leaving gasket material on the glass surface that would interfere with subsequent staining or imaging steps. The gasket remains attached to the plastic vessel during removal — a critical design feature that keeps the gasket away from the cell-covered glass surface throughout the fixation and removal process.
Innovative Sealing Design — Contamination Control During Incubation Innovative sealing design. The sealing interface between the polystyrene chamber and the glass slide is engineered to maintain a sealed, contamination-resistant culture environment during the full incubation period — preventing cross-contamination between adjacent wells while allowing gas exchange through the handled polystyrene lid. Supplied with handled polystyrene lid. The handled lid design allows easy placement and removal of the lid at the biosafety cabinet without finger contact with the lid surface that sits above the wells.
Disposable Incubation Trays — Stable, Organized Slide Storage Packaged in disposable incubation trays. Each 354118 slide is packaged in a disposable incubation tray that provides stable, flat support for the glass slide during incubation — preventing the slide from sliding, tilting, or contacting adjacent slides in the incubator. The tray also facilitates transport of multiple slides between incubator and biosafety cabinet without risk of slide breakage or culture disruption.
Ideal Applications — In Situ Analysis Without Cell Transfer Falcon™ Chambered Cell Culture Slides are ideal for in situ DNA amplification/hybridization, tissue and tumor typing/pathology, or any study requiring a small, accessible culture area. The CultureSlide™ format is specifically designed for applications where preservation of cell position, morphology, and spatial relationships is critical:
- Immunofluorescence (IF) and immunocytochemistry (ICC) — antibody-based detection of proteins in intact cells
- FISH and in situ hybridization (ISH) — in situ DNA/RNA detection without cell transfer
- Live-to-fixed imaging — culture, image live cells, then fix and re-image the same cells
- H&E and histochemical staining — morphological analysis of cultured cells on glass
- Drug treatment and toxicity studies — multi-condition treatment followed by direct immunofluorescence analysis
- Cell differentiation studies — temporal documentation of differentiation morphology and marker expression
