The Excel Scientific ThermalSeal® 2™ TS2-100 is a non-sterile, improved polyester sealing film for classic PCR thermal cycling and cold storage — the next-generation upgrade over the original ThermalSeal® film, delivering better adhesion, reduced evaporation, longer end tabs for easier handling, and less tendency to tear during plate removal. These improved films for classic thermal cycling applications consist of a 50µm polyester film with a 41µm layer of acrylic adhesive. Compared to the original ThermalSeal films, ThermalSeal 2 films offer better adhesion, reduced evaporation, longer end tabs for easier handling, and less tendency to tear during removal from the plate. Certified DNase-free, RNase-free, and nucleic acid-free. Not recommended for raised-rim plates. Not pierceable. Dimensions: 79.4 × 139.7 mm. 100 films per pack.
ThermalSeal® 2™ vs. Original ThermalSeal® — What's Improved? The ThermalSeal® 2™ TS2-100 is the direct upgrade over the original ThermalSeal® (STR-THER-PLT / 100-THER-PLT). Thicker, Stronger Adhesive — Better Adhesion and Reduced Evaporation ThermalSeal 2 films offer better adhesion, reduced evaporation. The upgraded 41µm acrylic adhesive layer — significantly thicker than the 25µm adhesive of the original ThermalSeal® — provides a more robust seal around each well, minimizing evaporation during thermal cycling and long-term cold storage. For labs that have experienced evaporation-related issues or seal lift during PCR with the original ThermalSeal® film, the ThermalSeal® 2™ delivers a meaningful, direct improvement with zero protocol change.
Longer End Tabs — Easier Handling and Positioning ThermalSeal 2 films offer longer end tabs for easier handling. The extended end tabs on the TS2-100 provide more grip surface for film handling and positioning — making it easier to pick up the film, align it precisely over the plate, and apply even pressure before sealing. The longer tabs reduce the risk of touching the adhesive surface during handling, which is particularly important for maintaining adhesive integrity and optical clarity in high-throughput environments.
Less Tearing During Removal — Cleaner Post-PCR Plate Access ThermalSeal 2 films offer less tendency to tear during removal from the plate. The 50µm polyester film of the ThermalSeal® 2™ is more dimensionally stable and tear-resistant during removal than the polypropylene film of the original ThermalSeal® — providing cleaner, more controlled seal removal after PCR runs without the risk of film tearing and adhesive fragments contaminating wells or samples.
Polyester Film — Dimensionally Stable During Thermal Cycling The 50µm polyester film of the TS2-100 provides superior dimensional stability during thermal cycling compared to polypropylene — maintaining consistent geometry and adhesive contact with the plate surface throughout the denaturation, annealing, and extension temperature cycling without shrinking, expanding, or lifting at the edges.
Not Recommended for Raised-Rim Plates Not recommended for raised-rim plates. The TS2-100 is dimensioned for standard PCR plates without a raised rim — for raised-rim plates, the ThermalSeal® RT2RR™ (TS-RT2RR-100) is the appropriate choice. For real-time qPCR applications requiring maximum optical clarity, the ThermalSeal® RT2™ (TS-RT2-100) or ThermalSeal® RTS™ (TSS-RTQ-100) lines are recommended.
Not Pierceable — For Sealing and Storage, Not Robotic Probe Access ThermalSeal® 2™ films are not pierceable. For applications where piercing with pipette tips or robotic probes is required for product recovery after sealing, the AlumaSeal II™ foil seals are the appropriate alternative.
-40°C to +120°C Temperature Range — Full PCR Thermal Cycling Coverage The -40°C to +120°C temperature range covers the complete PCR thermal cycling envelope from initial denaturation through annealing and extension steps, as well as cold storage — all in a single film without requiring separate seals for different stages of the workflow.
