The ThermalSeal® STR-THER-PLT is the pressure-sensitive sealing solution for classic endpoint PCR and cold storage workflows — applied by hand pressure with no heat sealer required, and designed specifically for structurally rigid polypropylene PCR plates.
No Heat Sealer Required — Hand-Pressure Application ThermalSeal® is a 50µm heat-resistant sealing film designed for thermal cycling applications. Each sealing film offers sufficient sealing area for all PCR plates. Unlike heat-seal films that require a dedicated heat sealing instrument, the ThermalSeal® STR-THER-PLT is applied by hand pressure alone — simply position the film over the plate using the two end tabs, press firmly across the surface, and the moderate-strength acrylic adhesive forms a reliable seal for thermal cycling and storage. This eliminates the equipment cost, maintenance, and workflow bottleneck of heat sealing instruments in labs that don't already own one.
Moderate-Strength Adhesive — Strong Seal, Easy Removal The moderate-strength acrylic adhesive of the ThermalSeal® STR-THER-PLT strikes the balance between reliable sealing during thermal cycling and easy, clean removal after the run. The film can be peeled away without excessive force, reducing the risk of aerosol generation and sample cross-contamination during removal. Easier to apply than aluminum foils, no tendency to roll back. The polypropylene film's flexibility makes it significantly easier to work with than rigid aluminum foil seals — conforming to the plate surface without the handling difficulties and edge-lifting issues associated with foil seals.
Minimizes Aerosols Upon Removal The less rigid polypropylene film construction of the ThermalSeal® minimizes aerosol generation when the seal is removed from the plate after PCR — an important safety and contamination control feature for labs working with infectious agents, radioactive tracers, or amplified DNA that could contaminate the work environment if aerosolized during seal removal.
⚠️ Important — Recommended for Rigid Polypropylene Plates Only The ThermalSeal® STR-THER-PLT is recommended only for structurally rigid polypropylene PCR plates that do not warp. Plates that warp during thermal cycling can break the adhesive seal and compromise well containment, evaporation control, and amplification performance. For flexible or thin-walled polypropylene plates, or for polycarbonate hard-shell plates, the ThermalSeal® RT2™ (TS-RT2-100) or RT2RR™ (TS-RT2RR-100) lines with their highly conformable adhesives are more appropriate choices.
Two End Tabs — Easy Positioning and Removal Features two end-tabs with perforations for ease of handling, application and removal. The end tabs allow precise film positioning over the plate before pressure is applied — preventing misalignment and ensuring consistent well coverage. The perforated tab boundaries allow clean removal after positioning without disturbing the sealed film. With end tabs removed, the length between perforations is 123.1mm.
-40°C to +120°C Temperature Range — PCR Thermal Cycling and Cold Storage The -40°C to +120°C temperature range covers the full PCR thermal cycling envelope from initial denaturation through annealing and extension steps, as well as cold storage at -40°C — all in a single film without requiring separate seals for different workflow stages.
Good Chemical Resistance — Broad Reagent Compatibility The ThermalSeal® STR-THER-PLT features good chemical resistance — suitable for sealing plates containing standard PCR reagents, buffers, and other common laboratory solutions. The polypropylene film and acrylic adhesive are compatible with the aqueous and mild organic solvent conditions typically encountered in PCR and cold storage applications.
Sterile — STR-THER-PLT vs. 100-THER-PLT The STR-THER-PLT is the sterile version of the ThermalSeal® line — important for cell-based assays, virus work, and any application where biological contamination of the sealing film is a concern. The non-sterile equivalent is the 100-THER-PLT (100 films/pack). Both formats share identical film specifications, temperature range, and adhesive performance.
