The ZR Urine RNA Isolation Kit addresses the specific challenges of urine as an RNA source that make standard RNA isolation kits unsuitable: cells and biological sediment are present at low concentration in a large-volume, dilute, high-salt matrix requiring a specialized concentration step before RNA extraction. The kit's innovative syringe filter system uses a uniquely designed ZRC GF™ Filter (1.6 µm pore size) to concentrate cells and biological sediment from up to 30 mL of urine per preparation in a single filtration step — then lyses the concentrated cells directly on the filter using the specially formulated Urine RNA Buffer, a guanidinium thiocyanate-based lysis reagent optimized for the unique matrix of urine. The collected lysate can be processed immediately or stored for transport and later processing. One-step RNA isolation via Zymo-Spin™ IC Column completes the purification in less than 5 minutes, yielding high-quality total RNA eluted in as little as ≥6 µL for maximum RT-qPCR sensitivity.
