Product Description
LIGHT LABS is proud to offer Mediatech RPMI 1640 Without L-Glutamine (Cat # 15-040-CV) — the glutamine-free formulation of the world's standard basal medium for lymphocyte, hybridoma, myeloma, and suspension cell culture, providing maximum flexibility for researchers who require independent control over glutamine supplementation. The 15-040-CV is the preferred choice for labs using stable dipeptide glutamine substitutes such as GlutaMAX™ or Corning® GlutaGRO™ in place of standard L-glutamine, for experiments studying glutamine metabolism and glutamine-dependent signaling pathways in lymphoid cells, or for custom media supplementation protocols where glutamine concentration must be precisely defined.
RPMI 1640 was developed at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute as a modification of McCoy's 5A medium with increased inositol, and is the most widely used and validated basal medium for human leukocytes, B and T lymphocytes, myeloma cells, hybridoma cells, and suspension cultures of non-adherent mammalian cells. The absence of L-glutamine in the 15-040-CV formulation is a critical experimental variable that researchers must address by adding glutamine — either as free L-glutamine, a GlutaMAX™ dipeptide, or Corning® GlutaGRO™ — at a defined concentration before use. This flexibility is particularly valuable for labs studying glutamine metabolism in lymphoid cells, where the presence or absence of glutamine in the basal medium has significant effects on cellular metabolism, proliferation, and cytokine secretion.
Every production lot undergoes comprehensive quality control testing — growth promotion and cytotoxicity analysis, endotoxin testing (<0.025 EU/mL — note the lower endotoxin specification vs. standard media, reflecting the higher sensitivity of lymphoid and hematopoietic cell types), sterility testing, and mycoplasma testing — with a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis available. Manufactured under ISO 13485 certified quality management system. LIGHT LABS is your trusted source for Mediatech cell culture media and reagents.
KEY FEATURES
- RPMI 1640 WITHOUT L-glutamine — maximum flexibility; add L-glutamine, GlutaMAX™, or Corning® GlutaGRO™ at precisely defined concentrations before use
- Ideal for GlutaMAX™ or Corning® GlutaGRO™ users — stable dipeptide glutamine substitutes add directly to glutamine-free basal medium without pre-existing glutamine; reduces ammonia accumulation from free L-glutamine degradation
- Critical for glutamine metabolism studies in lymphoid cells — glutamine-free basal medium allows precise experimental control of glutamine availability
- Same RPMI 1640 formulation as 10-040-CV — modification of McCoy's 5A with increased inositol; validated for lymphocytes, hybridomas, myeloma, PBMCs, and suspension cultures
- Cell types supported: mouse hybridomas, human leukocytes, B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes, myeloma cells, PBMCs, leukemic cell lines (add glutamine before use)
- Low endotoxin: ≤0.025 EU/mL — lower specification than standard media; reflects sensitivity of lymphoid and hematopoietic cell types
- Comprehensive lot-specific quality control — growth promotion, cytotoxicity, endotoxin, sterility, and mycoplasma testing on every lot
- Complete Certificate of Analysis available for each production lot
- Manufactured under ISO 13485 certified quality management system
- Liquid, sterile, ready-to-use format (add glutamine source before use)
- pH: 7.0–7.4
- Storage: 2°C to 8°C
- 500 mL bottles; 6 bottles per case
- Fisher Scientific Catalog No. MT15040CV
