The Excel Scientific ThermalSeal® RTS™ TSS-RTQS-50 is a sterile, optically clear microplate sealing film specifically designed for real-time qPCR, sample storage, and protein crystallization applications — featuring a unique 50µm inert encapsulated silicone adhesive that remains non-tacky until pressed against the sealing surface, then releases adhesive only in the well-sealing zones for the strongest available heat-resistant seal with no sample interference. ThermalSeal RTS™ sealing film is a 50µm thick polyolefin with 50µm inert encapsulated silicone adhesive. They are optically clear, with low autofluorescence, and are especially suited for real-time qPCR, storage, and protein crystallization applications. Encapsulated Silicone Adhesive — The Strongest Available Seal, Inert Over Wells The defining technology of ThermalSeal® RTS™ is its encapsulated silicone adhesive system. The encapsulated silicone adhesive is non-tacky until pressed against the sealing surface, at which time adhesive is released only in sealing areas to form the strongest available heat-resistant seal around each well on the plate. Adhesive on non-sealing areas of the film, such as directly over sample wells, remains encapsulated and inert. This means the adhesive contacts and seals the well walls and inter-well ridges — but never the sample surface above the well — eliminating any risk of adhesive-sample interaction, extractable contamination, or interference with fluorescence detection.
High Optical Clarity — Minimal Autofluorescence for Accurate qPCR Detection ThermalSeal RTS™ films offer high optical clarity and minimal to no autofluorescence. For real-time qPCR and fluorescence-based detection, the optical properties of the sealing film directly affect signal quality. Autofluorescence from the film itself creates background noise that reduces assay sensitivity and reproducibility. The ThermalSeal® RTS™ film is manufactured to the highest optical standards — providing consistent, uniform optical clarity across the entire film surface that enables reproducible, reliable DNA amplification measurements and crystal detection run to run and plate to plate.
Fits Within Raised Plate Rim — Prevents Film Lifting and Evaporation ThermalSeal RTS™ films are sized to fit within the edges of raised-rim 96-well plates. Easy removal of the end tabs at perforated boundaries prevents lifting and higher evaporation rates that can occur with films that overlap the plate rim. Film lifting at the plate rim is the most common cause of evaporation-related well-to-well variability in qPCR — a problem that is completely eliminated by the RTS™ fit-within-rim design. Two end tabs assist in precise film positioning on the plate, and the perforated tab boundaries allow clean removal after placement without disturbing the seal.
Non-Tacky Adhesive — Easy Handling, No Sticking to Gloves The non-tacky adhesive surface of the TSS-RTQS-50 simplifies handling before sealing — the film can be picked up, repositioned, and aligned on the plate without sticking to gloves or picking up fingerprints that would compromise optical clarity. This is a significant practical advantage over tacky adhesive films that adhere immediately on contact and cannot be repositioned once placed.
-80°C to +105°C Temperature Range — PCR, Cold Storage, and Everything Between The temperature range is -80°C to +105°C. This exceptional range covers the full spectrum of microplate workflows in a single film — from ultra-low temperature sample storage at -80°C through PCR and qPCR thermal cycling at up to 105°C. The TSS-RTQS-50 eliminates the need to maintain separate seal inventories for cold storage vs. thermal cycling applications.
Chemically Resistant — Including DMSO for HTS Applications ThermalSeal RTS™ films are chemically inert with no extractables except at extreme pH, and are DMSO resistant for HTS. Chemically resistant to DMSO, acetonitrile, and methanol. The chemical resistance profile makes the TSS-RTQS-50 suitable for compound library storage plates containing DMSO-solubilized compounds — a critical requirement for high-throughput screening labs where DMSO compatibility is non-negotiable.
