Product Description
The CELLTREAT® 229106 is a 6-well tissue culture treated flat-bottom plate with lid — sterile, clear polystyrene, individually packaged, and built with the full suite of CELLTREAT premium design features including the single-direction raised-rim nesting lid, alpha-numeric well identification, stacking lid feature, and lot number and expiration date printed on every plate. Tissue culture treated surface improves cell adhesion. Each well has a raised rim which nests into the rings on the single direction lid to reduce evaporation and limit the risk of cross-contamination. Lids have a stacking feature for added stability when handling tall stacks of plates. 9.60cm² growth area per well. Maximum well volume: 17mL. Working volume: 1.9–2.9mL. Manufactured from medical grade virgin polystyrene — RNase-free, DNase-free, and non-pyrogenic. 50 plates per case, individually packaged.
The 6-Well Format — Maximum Growth Area per Well in the Multi-Well Plate Format The 6-well plate occupies a unique and essential position in the cell culture plate format hierarchy — providing the largest individual well growth area (9.60cm²) of any standard multi-well format while maintaining the footprint and incubator compatibility of a standard microplate. The generous well dimensions allow the scratch/wound healing assay to be performed with sufficient clearance for imaging multiple fields along the wound front, accommodate primary cell isolates arriving in variable numbers without crowding, support large-volume media changes of up to 2.9mL working volume per well, and provide enough growth area for downstream applications — such as Western blotting, protein analysis, and gel electrophoresis — that require more total cell mass than smaller well formats can provide. For experiments that end with "lyse the cells and run a gel" or "harvest RNA for sequencing," the 6-well format is almost always the right choice.
TC-Treated Surface — Consistent, Uniform Cell Attachment Across All 6 Wells The tissue culture treatment of the 229106 creates a negatively charged hydrophilic surface across the flat bottom of every well — promoting consistent attachment and spreading of anchorage-dependent cells. The uniformity of the TC treatment process is tightly controlled across all 6 wells, ensuring equivalent cell attachment kinetics and growth rates in every position — critical for comparative assays, multi-condition experiments, and any workflow where well-to-well consistency directly affects data quality and experimental reproducibility.
Optically Clear Polystyrene — Direct Microscopic Observation and Imaging The clear polystyrene construction allows direct observation of cell morphology, confluency, and health under an inverted microscope without removing the plate from the incubator — essential for monitoring cell growth, checking for contamination, and documenting experimental time points in live-cell experiments. The flat-bottom well geometry provides a uniform focal plane across the entire well bottom for consistent microscopic imaging. The 9.60cm² flat-bottom well is large enough to accommodate standard scratch assay wound fields, colony formation assays, and any imaging application requiring a large, flat, optically clear growth surface.
Single-Direction Lid with Raised Rim Nesting Rings — Reduced Evaporation and Cross-Contamination Each well has a raised rim which nests into the rings on the single-direction lid — forming a well-specific physical registration interface that significantly reduces evaporation from individual wells and limits aerosol cross-contamination between wells during routine plate handling. The single-direction lid design ensures only one correct orientation — preventing accidental mis-orientation and maintaining the precise well-to-lid ring alignment required for the anti-evaporation and anti-contamination features to function correctly. In the 6-well format where working volumes of 1.9–2.9mL per well must be maintained consistently throughout multi-day experiments, evaporation control is critical for preventing osmolality shifts that affect cell behavior and assay outcomes.
9.60cm² Per Well — Maximum Growth Surface for High-Yield Applications The 9.60cm² growth area per well of the 229106 is the defining characteristic of the 6-well format — providing approximately 5× more growth surface than a 24-well plate (1.93cm²/well) and approximately 29× more than a 96-well plate (0.33cm²/well). This large growth area per well supports the highest cell yields of any standard multi-well plate format — making the 229106 the essential format for applications requiring substantial cell mass including protein extraction for Western blotting, RNA extraction for RNA-seq and qRT-PCR, ChIP and CHIP-seq, flow cytometry preparation, virus propagation and harvest, and any downstream assay that requires more total cell material than smaller formats can provide.
Maximum Well Volume 17mL — Large Media Volumes for Long-Duration Experiments The 17mL maximum well volume and 1.9–2.9mL recommended working volume of the 229106 support large, stable media volumes that provide extended buffering capacity for metabolically active cells — reducing the frequency of media changes required in long-duration experiments and providing the volume necessary for conditioned media collection, secretome studies, and cytokine/growth factor analysis from cell culture supernatants.
Stacking Lid Feature — Stability for Multi-Plate Incubator Stacks Lids have a stacking feature for added stability when handling tall stacks of plates. The molded stacking feature provides positive mechanical registration between stacked plates — preventing sliding, tipping, and plate separation during incubation and transport. In the 6-well format where each plate is physically larger and heavier than smaller multi-well formats, the stacking feature is especially important for preventing costly culture disruption from unstable plate stacks.
Alpha-Numeric Well Markings — A1 Through B3 on Plate and Lid Every 229106 plate is molded with clear alpha-numeric well labels (A through B rows, 1 through 3 columns) on both the plate base and the lid — providing instant well identification during pipetting, imaging, and data recording without manual labeling or external reference grids.
Manufactured from Medical Grade Virgin Polystyrene — RNase-Free, DNase-Free, Non-Pyrogenic Manufactured from medical grade virgin polystyrene and certified free of RNase, DNase, and pyrogens — qualifying the 229106 for RNA extraction and gene expression studies, transfection and reporter assays, nucleic acid-based downstream assays, and any molecular biology application where nuclease contamination from the plate material could compromise RNA or DNA integrity.
Individually Packaged — Sterile by Gamma Irradiation Each 229106 plate is individually packaged — maintaining sterility until the moment of use. All CELLTREAT multiple well plates are packaged sterile by gamma irradiation. Lot number and expiration date are printed on every plate for full traceability.
