The Clean & Concentrator™ and EZ DNA Methylation™ families each come in several versions, and the catalog numbers differ only by a digit or two.
This guide breaks down each kit by sample type, capacity and workflow so you can order the right one the first time. All kits are genuine Zymo Research products, in stock and shipped from LIGHT LABS in Colorado.
Start Here: What Are You Cleaning Up?
- PCR products, digests or general DNA (up to 5 µg) — DNA Clean & Concentrator-5
- Larger DNA amounts (up to 25 µg), cDNA or ssDNA — DNA Clean & Concentrator-25
- Genomic or other high-molecular-weight DNA — Genomic DNA Clean & Concentrator-10
- Oligos and short fragments — Oligo Clean & Concentrator
- RNA (small amounts, small RNA, NGS or RT-PCR prep) — RNA Clean & Concentrator-5

DNA Clean & Concentrator-5 vs. -25
The number in the name tells you the binding capacity. The DNA Clean & Concentrator-5 binds up to 5 µg of DNA, elutes in as little as 6 µL, recovers fragments from 50 bp to 23 kb, and takes about 2 minutes. It is the go-to kit for PCR purification and cleanup before sequencing or cloning.
The DNA Clean & Concentrator-25 binds up to 25 µg, handles cDNA and ssDNA, and is used for PCR purification, general cleanup and desalting with A260/280 ≥1.8.
Capped vs. uncapped columns: the capped (Zymo-Spin IC) versions reduce the risk of cross-contamination and are easy to handle in a microcentrifuge; the uncapped (Zymo-Spin I) versions suit labs that prefer open columns. Pick 50 or 200 preps based on your throughput.
RNA Clean & Concentrator: With or Without DNase I?
The RNA Clean & Concentrator-5 binds up to 10 µg RNA per column, elutes in as little as 6 µL, and takes about 5 minutes. It can recover total RNA (≥17 nt), or separate large RNA (>200 nt) from small RNA (17–200 nt), making it NGS- and RT-PCR-ready.
- R1013 / R1014 — include the DNase I Set for on-column removal of genomic DNA
- R1015 / R1016 — same kit without DNase I, for labs that already stock it or do not need it
Need more capacity? Step up to the RNA Clean & Concentrator-25 (higher-capacity column) or the -100 for large-scale preps.
EZ DNA Methylation Kits Compared
All four kits perform bisulfite conversion of unmethylated cytosines for downstream methylation analysis. The difference is the workflow:
- EZ DNA Methylation Kit — the original kit, built for complete conversion with minimal DNA loss
- EZ DNA Methylation-Gold Kit — uses heat denaturation instead of chemical denaturation in a single-step reaction
- EZ DNA Methylation-Lightning Kit — the fastest workflow, with a ready-to-use conversion reagent (no preparation needed)
- EZ DNA Methylation-Direct Kit — converts samples with no prior DNA extraction, ideal when sample is limited
